The ifrogz Summit Case Snap-In Shell Carrying Case for the iPad 2 was only one model I was looking at and, frankly, I didn’t have high hopes for it. It was a bit thicker than I wanted (about 3/4 in) when there are slimmer models. I have an “official” Apple smart cover, but it can get moved around in a backpack, and the metal back can still be scraped. So I needed a case.

As I looked over a display model, I started liking what I saw.

It still has the smart cover on/off feature. The case seems sturdy (even had it on my treadmill while running). I have access to all the switches, ports, inputs, and sensors. And I really liked the three viewing angles. Remember, the Apple smart cover gives you two angles, steep and shallow. I like the option of a middle viewing angle (about 45-60 degrees)

    Nicer than I was expecting!

I bought based on other reviews however disappointed afte only 3 months the cover (which has inside made of plastic) started to band and not be flat. It bows out and doesn’t close fully. Also leaves marks on screen. Would not recommend.

After purchasing an iPad2, the search was on for a protective/carrying case. The covers offered by Apple are not appealing to me (pastel colors, don’t fully protect the tablet.) I searched around online for some cases and at some local retailers, and found the ifrogz summit. The price on Amazon was at least $10 less than I could find anywhere else. The snap on hard case protects the rear and the front cover has a soft felt to protect the screen, and puts the iPad to sleep when closed. The exterior is classy. After a few weeks I am still very enthusiastic and happy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

    GREAT PRODUCT but….., June 30, 2012

Firstly it protects the iPad and is carried around easily by my 2 year old. I have stopped worrying about her dropping the iPad and damagining the corners or shattering the screen. Even if the iPad falls face down, the screen does not touch the floor. My reason for giving a 4 instead of a 5 star is in the standing position, which is the preferred position for watching videos. My daughter sometimes like to change from one programme to another, the iPad falls over when you touch the screen as the stand is not sturdy enough in this position.

The color is not as light as featured none the less it is a beautiful hot pink.

This case works great for my 20 month old granddaughter to use her parents iPad 2 and my iPad 3. This case is attractive, durable, and protects the iPad in case it is dropped. Although the camera, power button, and volume controls are easily accessible to an adult, they are nicely tucked away from my granddaughter.

My granddaughter can easily take this case off the couch and put it on the floor and start opening her favorite apps. The case is lightweight and she can easily grasp either the handle or the sides.

Another review claims that the stand is not stable and that the iPad will fall over when your child touches the screen. But that depends on how you use the stand. If you position the iPad so the stand is at the bottom of the screen, then yes a simple touch will knock the iPad over. But if you position the stand so that it is at the top of the screen (which elevates the iPad just the right amount for a child to use it) then no amount of touching the screen will knock the iPad over. Also, using the stand in this manner also lets your child use it for portrait orientation, which is not possible if you position the stand at the bottom of the screen.

In any event, I think stands are important to adults, but not very important to toddlers using the iPad. Most of the time my granddaughter does not bother with the stand at all, and either lays the iPad flat on the floor or else flat on a couch. Other times I just put it on my lap. And when I sit in the back with her in the car when we travel, I never use the stand.

Finally, since this case takes a little bit of doing to take on and off, I decided to leave it on all the time rather than switch back to an “adult” case when our granddaughter goes home. It’s actually very convenient for me to take into the backyard and offers more protection than the case that I used to use. However, my son-in-law regularly switches between this case and an “adult” case when he takes the iPad to the office, and it’s not a big deal for him to do so.

Note: The case comes with a black plastic insert to help maintain its shape. You need to remove that completely before inserting your iPad.

Bottom line: This is a great product for toddlers to use an iPad without worrying about them breaking it, playing with the power or volume buttons, or touching the camera lens.

Update December 26, 2012: Still using this. It has become indispensable for my granddaughter’s iPad use.

Couldn’t ask for anything more. It’s really light, and easy to install and use. My son LOVES the handle. I installed the armor-shield screen protector myself as well. I like this case, and my son loves it too. It’s a very light rubbery material, I believe it would literally bounce off the floor if it fell. I feel comfortable that the ipad2 is safe in this housing while still being very light and usable.
